Art for Interiors - A Gallery with a Difference - Atticus

"Art for Interiors" news...
Here at the Atticus shop and studio in Peebles we are proud to exhibit the works of some of our favourite artists. One artist at a time, we incorporate the works amidst our interior furnishing displays - a gallery with a difference, "Art for Interiors". Working with and getting to know the artists ahead of exhibiting offers us a window into where their art comes from, what inspires them, and what makes their paintings special and different. We are currently exhibiting the work of local artist Joseph Maxwell Stuart. Oil on board, painted "en plein air", framed by the artist, subjects include local scenes in and around Peebles, as well as scenes from Joseph's favourite cities of Edinburgh, Venice and Paris. Wherever Joseph travels he always keeps an eye out for "a composition", a view that inspires him to paint. So you may also find scenes from the Isle of Iona, Culross, Newhaven to name but a few. We have been exhibiting Joseph's work for a few weeks now, and I have become more fond of the paintings the longer they have settled on our walls. Every day I see new colours that I had not previously noticed, I see hundreds of shades of lilacs in his snow scenes, big brushstrokes giving the illusion of deep water, and pools of light drawing my eye to the focal point of the painting. Great art changes with the light and the mood, and can be interpreted differently at every glance. Joseph's work is captivating, the more you look the more you see, and the further you are from the painting the more detail that appears from the brush strokes. We are delighted that this exhibition so far has sent paintings of Peeblesshire views as far south as Manchester, as far north as Nairn, scenes of Venice have made their way to walls in Eskbank whilst others have been purchased to mark special occasions and gifts. Each purchase has meant so much to the customer, to us and to the artist. We have enjoyed witnessing each and every purchaser falling for their chosen painting, knowing the reasons for their choice and the stories behind each choice. We continue to exhibit Joseph's work for another two weeks. And then, we introduce another artist with a completely different style and story. This is art - completely unique, personal, special. Fall for something you see, bring it home, make it the anchor for your interior colour scheme. That is "Art for Interiors".
